More BEA Program Highlights



We now have 4 Author Stages on the show floor—each one highlighting dynamic authors and topics. Here are handful of highlights:

Thursday, May 29:
Uptown Stage
1:00 pm - 1:30 pm       Where Near-future Technologies and Sci-fi Meet: Join the conversation with New York Times bestselling authors Douglas Preston (The Kraken Project) and John Scalzi (Lock In).

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm       The Best Graphic Novels of 2014: Graphic novelists such as Jules Feiffer (Kill My Mother) will discuss the state of the graphic novel industry.

Downtown Stage
11:15 am - 12:15 pm   Lidia Bastianich, best-selling author of nine cookbooks, Emmy Award-winning Public Television host, restaurateur and owner of a food and entertainment business, will discuss how she has married her two passions—family and food.

Friday, May 30:
Uptown Stage
2:00 pm - 2:30 pm       The Craft of Writing and World Building: Five masters of the craft, including Brandon Mull (Five Kingdoms Series) and Scott Westerfeld (Afterworlds), will discuss constructing a fictional world and how it affects their characters.

Downtown Stage
11:00 am - 12:00 pm   Inside the Mystery Writer’s Studio: Get a glimpse inside the creative processes of bestselling mystery/thriller writers Brad Meltzer, Sandra Brown, Michael Koryta, Sara Blaedel and moderator Megan Abbott (Dare Me and The Fever).

1:30 pm - 2:00 pm       Women of Contemporary Fiction: Get a behind-the scenes look at the creative processes of bestselling novelists Liane Moriarty, Amy Bloom, Randy Susan Meyers, Susan Jane Gilman and moderator Elin Hilderbrand.

Saturday, May 31
Uptown Stage
10:00 am - 10:30 pm    Where Are the People of Color in Children’s Books: Industry professionals and authors such as Tonya Bolden (Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America) will share their insight.
