Follow up from yesterday's post

Thank you to everyone who reached out to us regarding their individual situations with the press pass issue.   We appreciate your patience and will respond to everyone individually that has contacted the BEA team either here, on the BEAN, e-mail or Twitter as quickly as we can. The Easter & Passover holidays makes it tough to accomplish anything over the weekend.

One thing I need to address now is a piece of misinformation that has been widely circulated.  Please note, anyone planning for the BEA Bloggers Conference (BBC) expecting to attend BEA - - the issue of qualifying for a free press pass has no impact on your plans whatsoever.  The BBC badge ALWAYS included a full access pass to BEA - period.   BEA Special Events like the Author Breakfast are an additional fee - that also has always been the case.

The only debate is for anyone (blogger or traditional media) seeking a free press pass.  We recognize the error in the delay in notifying people - we were wrong, we are very sorry about this and will rectify.  We are also happy to revisit anyone's credentials that feel they should qualify.  This is how the process has always worked, there have been no changes to the procedure of who qualifies for a press pass.

Thank you again for your patience, I hope you able to enjoy a safe and pleasant Holiday weekend.

Then why did I receive an email from Roger Bilheimer telling me I was not approved? Why, when I called, was I told that I would have to pay an additional $96? Perhaps, instead of posting these statements here, you should send them to the rest of the folks who work for BEA because they don't seem to know any of this.

All I wanted was to attend the blogger conference and pay the stated price of $135. This whole process has been an ordeal and one that does not inspire confidence. Especially since the misinformation being circulated is coming from BEA.

    1. Pot meet kettle? The most "widely circulated" "misinformation" seems to be coming from official channels.

I have to say that I am absolutely not impressed on the timing of your refusal emails. You simply drop a bomb on us and expect us to live with it because it is a holiday and a weekend.

Unfortunately, I can't say that I am really relaxing over this holiday and weekend because I am deeply worried about losing $600.00 in travel costs - simply not fair.

  3. Steven perhaps you should just leave as is for this year since alot of people have already made travel arrangements and its a huge inconvience for us having to dish additional money out when in the first place we weren't expecting this and its already almost three months since we registered. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and work on this for next year.

    1. I agree. I do not mind paying my way into BEA as I do feel it is worth it, but changing plans on us so last minute when money has been spent or budgeted down to the last penny, and meetings and events have been set up, is just wrong.

I say leave it the way it is now and next year we all pay for BBC or Non-editorial media. This way we know way in advance that we do not attend as Press.

  5. When I called customer service today, I was told that BBC did not, nor ever had included a BEA pass, and then I was directed to this site http://www.bookexpoamerica.com/RNA/RNA_BookExpo_V2/documents/2012/BEA12_WhatDoesMyBadgeGetMeInto.pdf which specifically says I need to purchase a BEA pass separately. Help?

    1. Hi Tara:

I am sorry for the delay in replying - I was at the LBF when you wrote and I had not checked here for any questions since. Were you taken care of? Your BBC pass absolutely includes BEA. I can only think it might have been one our very new client service people. You can e-mail me direct if you are still unresolved - srosato@reedexpo.com
